SPUSD Announcements

During the school year, the Santa Clara Valley area that includes Santa Paula experiences unusually high weather temperatures upwards of 95 degrees or more on some days. We at the Santa Paula Unified School District realize that the extremely hot weather poses a challenge to both our students and teachers. To address this issue, the District instituted Heat Mitigation Measures as follows:

    • The declaration of “Heat Days” when temperatures exceed 95 degrees for two (2) or more consecutive school days
    • Four (4) “Heat Days” per year are allowed by contract
    • Students will be dismissed on a minimum day schedule during “Heat Days”
    • A “Heat Day” will be called by 12 noon on the prior day and messages are sent via flyers and phone to parents using Ed-Connect
    • Bottled water is delivered to school sites
    • Athletic coaches are advised to limit outdoor practices or move to indoor activities
      • Provide frequent water breaks
      • Monitor athletes closely
    • All outdoor activities during the school day
      • Limit outdoor activities to a minimum
      • Limit physical activities as appropriate
    • All outdoor after-school program activities are limited
      • Moved indoors to rooms with air conditioning
