Summer Reading does affect school achivement, says researcher Barbara Heyns in

"Summer Learning and the Effects of Schooling". Her research showed:

    • The number of books read during the summer is consistently related to academic gains.
    • The use of the public library is more predictive of vocabulary gains than attending summer school.
    • READING is the single summer activity most strongly and consistently related to summer learning
    • Children in every income group who read six or more books over the summer gained more in reading achievement than children who did not

So, make it your goal to go to the library and read 6 or more books this summer!!

  • Students, remember to read over your break!  If you read or have parents / guardians read to you, you will be better prepared for school in August!

Take care of your chromebooks!  You will need the chromebooks when we come back to school. These machines are not your personal property!  Store them in a safe place.  Do not use them for entertainment such as playing video games on them.  These machines are to be use ONLY for school purposes!  We expect they will be returned to school with you at the start of the next school year!  5th graders, you will be asked to bring the chromebooks back with you to Isbell when you come back to school. Take care of our computers.
Thanks all and have a restful and safe break!
