Mr. Derek Luna (2016-2018, 2018-2022) was elected to the Santa Paula Unified School Board in November 2016 and re-elected in 2018. He has served the last two years representing the district on the joint ad hoc committee with council members from the City of Santa Paula.
Derek was raised in Santa Paula and has spent a numerous amount of years in the field of education. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from The University of Arizona and has a Master’s degree in Education from Grand Canyon University. He is also a credentialed mathematics teacher for grades 6-12.
Derek started his career as a behavior support specialist working with children on the Autism spectrum. He then worked as a behavior support counselor to children with emotional disturbances, and now currently teaches high school Geometry. He also teaches at Cal Lutheran University as an Adjunct Professor while coaching football in his spare time.
Derek is a life loyal member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, alumni of Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity and is a member of Rotaract International.
Derek believes in putting kids and families first and looks forward to working with the students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members to advance Santa Paula's educational standard of excellence.
