AVID Course Outline - Middle School
AVID is a college readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll and persist in four-year colleges and universities. AVID accelerates student learning and uses research-based methods of effective instruction in content-area classes. The AVID elective course is taken during the school day. Students are usually selected to enroll in an AVID class after an application process. For one class period each day, students learn organizational and study skills, develop critical thinking by asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college attainable. Enrichment and motivational activities include researching colleges, learning about the college experience, and field trips including to colleges and museums.
