SPUSD receives Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Grant
Santa Paula Unified School District is one of two school districts in Ventura County selected to receive the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant funded through the United States Department of Agriculture. This grant provides a free fresh fruit or vegetable snack to all children in participating elementary schools.
The three goals of the FFVP Program are to provide a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables; increase fruit and vegetable consumption; and influence healthy lifestyle habits throughout a person’s lifespan.
SPUSD was awarded the FFVP grant for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. The grant is for one year with an option to re-apply at the end of the year.
The following school sites received the FFVP grant: Glen City School, Grace Thille School and Barbara Webster School.
Beginning late August, each participating school site will offer an afternoon snack of fresh fruits or vegetables in the classroom three days a week. For additional information on the FFVP, please contact Gonzalo Paz, Nutrition Specialist at (805) 933-8869.
